Fire and Gas Detection Systems for Critical Environments
Early, reliable detection is central to protecting people, vessels, facilities and operations. Maretek provides fire and gas detection equipment for marine, offshore and industrial environments, supported by control, alarm, testing and system-integration options.
Fire Detectors
Smoke Detectors
Optical smoke detectors are suited to the early recognition of smouldering fires and can also respond to flaming fires that generate visible smoke. Detector selection should consider the expected smoke characteristics, airflow, environmental contamination and the required alarm architecture.
Heat Detectors
Heat detection can use absolute temperature and rate-of-rise behaviour to identify abnormal thermal conditions. Robust protective housings allow the sensing element to respond to the surrounding temperature while helping protect it from mechanical damage.
Standalone and Multi Sensor Detectors
Standalone battery-powered detectors provide local detection and alarm where an independent unit is appropriate. Multi-sensor devices combine optical smoke and temperature inputs to improve application flexibility and resistance to common false-alarm sources. Available functions may include multiple sensitivity bands, drift compensation, visible status indication and automatic addressing.
Flame Detectors
Ultraviolet, infrared and combined UV and IR technologies can detect open flames from combustible liquids, gases and carbon-based materials. Different sensor arrangements support applications ranging from hydrocarbon risks to hydrogen flames and locations requiring long-distance detection or strong immunity to false alarms.
Gas Detection
Fixed gas monitoring addresses three broad risk groups: combustible gases that may create fire or explosion hazards, toxic gases that threaten personnel, and oxygen displacement in confined spaces. Maretek offers fixed-point and open-path detection options for continuous monitoring of relevant hazards.
Fixed Point Gas Detectors
Fixed-point detectors monitor a defined location and can interface with local controllers or distributed systems. Depending on the selected equipment, output options may include 4 to 20 mA, relay, Modbus and HART communications. Features such as self-diagnostics, local display and non-intrusive calibration can simplify operation and maintenance.
Open Path Gas Detectors
Open-path technology monitors gas across a line of sight, making it useful for large or open areas. Typical applications include offshore platforms and FPSOs, oil and gas terminals, tank farms, LNG and LPG facilities, petrochemical plants, turbine areas, waste-processing sites and transportation terminals. Rugged construction, alignment tolerance and resistance to false alarms are important selection considerations.
Detection and Extinguishant Control Panels
Control panels bring detection, alarm, signalling and protection functions into a coordinated system. Maretek supplies conventional, analogue addressable, interactive addressable and programmable options for fire, gas and integrated fire-and-gas applications, with interfaces for associated protection systems.
- Fire detection control panels for continuous system monitoring and alarm management
- Gas detection control panels for sensor inputs, displays, alarms and control outputs
- Integrated fire and gas control systems with PLC or SCADA integration where required
- Extinguishant control panels for supervised release sequences and local or remote status indication
Extinguishant-release panels can be configured around multiple detection zones and voting logic. Countdown display, remote status units and robust, serviceable construction help support controlled release and clear operator awareness.
Manual Alarm and Warning Devices
Manual call points allow personnel to initiate an alarm directly. Indoor marine and weather-resistant variants support different installation locations. Audible and visual warning products include industrial, fire, hazardous-area, wide-area and open-area devices, enabling alarm coverage to be matched to noise levels, visibility and environmental exposure.
Detector Test and Calibration Equipment
Routine testing confirms that detectors can respond and that alarms are correctly transmitted. Maretek offers smoke-detector aerosols and dispensers, cordless heat-detector testers, flame-detector test lamps, gas test and calibration kits, access poles and combined detector-test kits. The correct test method should be selected for the installed detector and performed under a controlled procedure that prevents unintended system activation.
Cargo Hold Smoke Extraction and Detection
Cargo-hold smoke extraction systems continuously draw air samples from protected holds to a central detection arrangement. When smoke is identified, alarms at the main and repeater panels indicate the affected space. Systems may use alternating fan units, extension panels and relay interfaces, and can make use of existing carbon-dioxide pipework where the approved design permits.
